Building Leicester’s Schools for the Future - 10 February 2005

White Young Green sponsored the event which focused on Leicester’s Building Schools for the Future (“BSF”) Programme. 

David Booth, Director of Engineering at White Young Green Leicester’s office, introduced the speakers.

Speakers:
Pam Allardice, Associate, Gateley Wareing
Brian Glover, Project Director of the BSF Project for Leicester City Council
Alan Yates, Technical Director of the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM)

Details:
The UK Government is committed to investing £6.3 billion by 2006-7 in the BSF Programme to ensure every secondary school in England provides an inspiring 21st century environment for learning.  This is a huge capital investment and Leicester City is in the “First Wave” of Local Education Authorities to be accepted into the BSF programme.

Presentations:
Pam Allardice of Gateley Wareing introduced the topic by giving a general overview of the BSF Programme. Brian Glover, Project Director of the BSF Project for Leicester City Council then presented the scale and type of development which Leicester City Council are aiming for in its BSF Programme. Finally, Alan Yates, Technical Director of the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) talked about how BREEAM will be applied to school buildings in the BSF Programme to ensure they achieve high environmental performance. 

Questions and debate followed the presentations.
