Craig Mitchell, ProCon Leicestershire Committee Member, introduced the speakers. Speakers: Ali Mafi, East Midlands Regional Co-ordinator for the initiative Dr Richard O’Connor, Lean Improvements Manager at Thomas Vale Construction plc Details: Applying “Lean” thinking has transformed many industries and its implementation in construction is now starting to show the potential benefits. The Lean approach allows improvements in time, cost and quality to be made without trade-offs and focuses on what the client and end user want from the construction project. Lean construction requires a fresh approach to the complete process from design to sign off of the completed project in order to remove waste, create continuous flow and enhance value to the customer. Presentations: Ali Mafi explained how “Lean” principles worked and could result in a win-win situation for contractors, developers and their funders. Dr Richard O’Connor presented a case study highlighting the benefits brought to his Company by using Lean Construction principles. Questions and debate followed the presentations.
