The University of Leicester’s £5.5m new Cardiovascular Research Centre is a four storey research building at Glenfield General Hospital, an internationally acclaimed centre for cardiac, renal and cancer care.
Delivered by the architect ADP, main contractor Morgan Sindall , project manager DBK, quantity surveyor MDA and structural engineer Couch Consulting, the building doubles the research capability of the hospital.
The David Wilson Biobank, on the ground floor, is capable of processing and storing samples from up to 100,000 individuals.
The new Cardiovascular Research Centre forms part of the Clinical Sciences Wing (CSW) of the Glenfield General Hospital. This is the research and teaching facility of the University of Leicester and University Hospital Trust Partnership.
The new facility doubles the research capacity of the hospital and is unique to the UK. Laboratory space and specialised equipment provide analytical platforms bringing together evidence of diseases, along with any clinical data to enhance understanding.
Arranged over four floors, the building includes new research facilities for the Cardiovascular Research Centre. The upper floor has a reception area, meeting spaces, seminar room and offices for the University’s researchers and lecturers.
Appropriately for a hospital setting, the project was delivered 100 per cent safe with no reportable incidents or accidents during its construction.
