Hinckley Hub

Large Non-Residential Scheme of the Year Award 2013 Finalist

Hinckley Hub is a new council headquarters building and public sector hub for Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, Leicestershire County Council and Hinckley Jobcentre Plus.

Part of a wider mixed-use redevelopment of a former hosiery factory site by developer and architect MRP, the Hub is a conversion and extension of two former hosiery factory buildings.

Built by Rugby contractor Stepnell, the £5.26m Hub on Hinckley’s Rugby Road has achieved a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating for its energy use and environmental impact.

Project Overview

Part of a wider mixed-use development of a former four acre hosiery factory site, the Hinckley Hub is the part conversion and extension of two former hosiery factory buildings.

Notwithstanding its use of existing buildings, Hinckley Hub has achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating.

Various public sector bodies expressed interest in co-locating to the scheme during the design phase. MRP re-designed the scheme numerous times to incorporate, amongst others, a Jobcentre Plus.

The public sector partners in the building operate a shared services and accommodation model and shared flexible parking. This adds a further layer of efficiency and cost-saving.

Open plan layouts set within the original factory’s generous volumes - complete with their large window openings - have created a feeling of spaciousness.
