We believe great architecture starts with understanding people. Every project, whether a new school, workplace, community facility or residential development, begins with listening to our clients, understanding their aspirations and creating places that deliver lasting value.
At A+G Architects, education is more than a sector. It is a significant part of our practice and an area where we are passionate about making a lasting difference.
Schools sit at the heart of communities, shaping the experiences of young people and providing the foundations for future generations. Our role is to help clients create environments that support learning, wellbeing and long-term growth, whether through new school developments, campus expansions or targeted improvements to existing facilities.
Over recent years, we have built a diverse education portfolio across the East Midlands, working with local authorities, academy trusts, contractors and developers to deliver projects that respond to increasing pupil numbers, evolving teaching methodologies and the changing needs of modern education.
A recent example is Iveshead School, where we helped deliver additional teaching accommodation using Modern Methods of Construction. Working closely with the contractor, specialist manufacturer and school stakeholders, the project utilised volumetric modular classrooms to provide flexible, high-quality learning spaces while minimising disruption to the live school environment. Sustainability was embedded throughout the design, incorporating photovoltaic panels, air source heat pumps and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery to support long-term operational efficiency. The project was successfully delivered ahead of programme and within budget.
Our work at Hastings High School demonstrated our ability to deliver major educational projects within occupied campuses. The scheme included a significant expansion to accommodate a growing student population, centred around a new sports hall, a two-storey teaching block and extensive refurbishment works. By carefully integrating new and existing facilities, the project enhanced teaching provision, improved circulation and created a modern learning environment while maintaining day-to-day school operations throughout construction.
Alongside completed projects, we continue to support the delivery of new educational facilities across the region. Current projects include Longfield Academy, Hallam Fields Primary, Thorpebury Primary and the new Garendon Primary School, each designed to support expanding communities and increasing demand for school places.
Garendon Primary School, in particular, represents an exciting opportunity to create essential community infrastructure as part of a major new residential development. The school will play a central role in establishing a sense of place for new residents while providing a high-quality learning environment for future generations.
While great design is important, successful delivery is what ultimately creates value for our clients. A+G Architects has extensive experience delivering education projects through all RIBA stages, working collaboratively with contractors and consultant teams to develop coordinated, construction-ready information that supports programme, cost and quality objectives. Our experience of working within live school environments means we understand the importance of buildability, phasing, safeguarding and minimising disruption to school operations. This practical, delivery-focused approach has enabled us to successfully deliver extensions, refurbishments, modular classroom schemes and new-build schools for a wide range of education clients.
What links all of these projects is a common approach. We work collaboratively with stakeholders from the earliest stages, carefully balancing educational aspirations, operational requirements, programme constraints and budget considerations. Whether designing new-build schools, extending existing campuses or improving learning environments, our focus is always on creating practical, sustainable and inspiring spaces that enhance educational outcomes.
As demand for school places continues to grow, A+G Architects is proud to be helping shape the next generation of learning environments. Through innovative design, technical expertise and a deep understanding of the education sector, we are creating schools that support pupils, staff and communities today while remaining adaptable for the future.
