For a student soon to graduate, getting their foot in the door and gaining experience in the form of an internship can prove extremely beneficial. As well as strengthening their CV, they can improve their industry knowledge, grow their confidence and gain important contacts, all of which increase their chances of being successful in their search for permanent work.
For the organisation offering the placement it can give you the opportunity to assess the student with a view to longer term recruitment, but also provide the additional support often needed in a busy company. It can also help to guide your future recruitment strategy as you have the opportunity to learn from the student about their expectations and what they are learning.

It has given me a real insight into working life in the teams, through shadowing people and attending meetings plus being out on site and seeing real progress on the ground over the six weeks.
I’ve started thinking about my final year dissertation and my time at Leicester City Council has really helped me develop my thoughts on what the subject could be.
It has been great being alongside experienced people who have such passion for and understanding of development and planning. I would advise other students consider applying for next summer to have a go – I can recommend it very highly.
