DSA had seen a strong end to 2019 with project delivery and a growing number of projects. We were looking forward to 2020, then the pandemic struck and with this came change.

As we began 2020, it was clear the pandemic was going to have an impact on the economy, the construction sector and how businesses would operate in the future. March 2020, saw DSA’s new offices temporarily close and prepare for a new way of working in an unprecedented situation. DSA as with many firms saw a number of projects halted, funding pulled away for various projects whilst everyone got to grips with the pandemic and understanding how it would impact the built environment.

DSA adapted the business, policies and processes to ensure it was geared up for the changes ahead and our time during covid gave us time to reflect on the business. As a company we were braced for change, the need to drive the business forward, the values we wanted to drive the business by and the mission for it to thrive.

The practice focussed on scaling up by; Restructuring of the team by introducing a number of new roles and focussing on experience with senior appointments, whilst introducing new sectors.

Investing in our technology offering and the skills required to optimise new functionality and digital propositions with BIM and Virtual Reality.

We continued to build our client base outside of Leicestershire. With several high quality and exciting commercial schemes.

DSA is about the team, the team is our greatest asset and we continue to invest, nurture and support their development. The culture and character of DSA is a product of the highly motivated staff and the studio environment.

During the pandemic we made the decision to restructure the team and invest into new roles and experience. We created a new business development role with the introduction of Sabrina Sudera.

Sabrina joined us after enjoying a successful career in the NHS as a Research Officer. With a strong background in Psychology, Sabrina brings her passion for people to DSA and has a clear, demanding remit to drive the growth of our business.

Sabrina’s personal competitive USP’s marry incredibly well with our business’s passion and commitment to designing responsible, sustainable and memorable schemes for both commercial and residential use across the UK and our Vision to promote the importance of sustainable architecture in the built environment that is responsive to the technical, aesthetic and budgetary expectations of our clients.

We have also more recently, appointed a Senior Technical Manager who has extensive experience in technical development and project delivery in Retail, Commercial, Sports & Leisure and Residential sector project. The new STM will lead the technical team at DSA as well as Business Development.

Architect Tim Rodgers joined Design Studio Architects as associate in January 2022. Rodgers will, along with the team, develop, DSA’s new sports and leisure service alongside delivering residential and industrial schemes.

Rodgers, a member of the RIBA, said: “DSA is a forward-thinking vibrant practice with its sights set firmly on moving ahead positively. I am looking forward to adding value, team building, mentoring, and sharing my knowledge and experience”.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to grow the multi-unit residential side of the business and build the sports and leisure sector. Sport, in particular rugby has been part of my life for many years and has given a clear understanding of the funding, function and operational demands of sports training and clubhouse facilities. Having delivered a number of rugby, football and leisure facilities it will be exciting to add to the experience DSA already has in this sector and introduce and seek new opportunities within the sports and leisure sector.”

Keshiv Sudera, managing director at Design Studio Architects, said: “We feel the addition of Tim to our growing team is really exciting for DSA going forward. His experience and knowledge will allow us to develop further in the sectors we are currently involved in but also steer the sport and leisure sector of the business.”

DSA added Virtual Reality (VR) to its toolkit over the last 12 months and we have recognised the value of continually investing into technology to help improve the way we work with clients.

Advances in technology can present opportunities for us to test our design ideas, allowing us to use virtual and augmented reality. This allows us to immerse ourselves in the design, experience the environment and feel the space.

DSA will keep innovating and embracing new techniques that enhance design communication.

Over the last 24 months DSA has continued to grow nationally and working with a number of key commercial clients across diverse sectors including healthcare, residential developments, sports and leisure, student living and workplace (offices/retail outlets/commercial units) for companies and organisations in both the private and public sector including; Vistry Partnership, Accor Group, Boohoo, Leicester City Football Club, New Forest District Council, Nuneaton & Bedworth Council, Scania Nuneaton & Bedworth Council.

Since lockdown to now, we have been on a journey we will never forget, and we feel we are stronger for it. Following the changes, the practice continues to grow and adapt, with a series of projects which are soon to be showcased. We continue to remain ambitious and driven and as a boutique Architecture practice with a client focussed approach we have a lot to be excited about.

The creative, energetic and talented team at DSA work on all scales across a diverse range of sectors, including residential, healthcare, student living, sports & leisure and industrial. We offer services across the RIBA work stages, from inception to completion. Our team ensures projects run smoothly, from the initial meetings through to the handover. We work on projects of various scales, from multiple units to individual buildings. We work with numerous clients, from commercial businesses to individuals in both the private and public sector.

Our approach is analytical with the aim to engage and solve problems within a specific context. We feel architecture is about the people as well as the buildings and therefore the buildings should be influenced by their surroundings, their use and the end users.
