Drive to work cross-country, head full of things to do today. Planet Rock or 5-Live?
Fire up the machine. Quick check on incoming mail. Wish I hadn’t. 1st coffee. Complete timesheet. Arrange invoicing for completed projects. Open Planning sheet and arrange today’s priorities. First – jobs not finished from last week. Check drawings for issue. Answer contractor query. File email. Complete two quotations.
2nd coffee. Check email. Delete. Delete. Delete. Delete. Highlight for attention. Discuss technical query with staff member. Discuss drainage quotation. Breathe.
Coffee #3 – last one cold. Local site visit to resolve construction problem. Right, first thing on priority list. Have to wait, return ‘phone call from architect. Finish design at last – Hurrah! Quick win. Mustn’t forget response to Institution. Internal Planning meeting. ‘Phone calls. Forgot lunch, had an apple somewhere? For wimps anyway.
4th coffee – last one cold. Call new client, take instructions, arrange visit for next week. Answer site query – something uncovered no-one knew about. Re-design. Do it straight away or will have to wait 3-weeks - want something doing give it to a busy person. Re-issue. Check what I completed today – one thing from priority list. Result! Late in the day, but confirmation of contract amendments received. Sign and issue so we can be paid. Just finish this before I go. Where did that last hour go? Grab file for tomorrow morning visit.
Home. Forgot – need to re-fuel the car, running on empty. Not the only one.
Let’s do it all again tomorrow. Eat, sleep, repeat. Don’t you just love it!
Ours is a service industry, and irrespective of project size or complexity, each project has equal importance to client and customer, and at DWS we always endeavour to treat our commissions in this way.
In the 9-years since the establishment of DWS, we have received nearly 5000 enquiries, or approximately 50 per week, which means we must be doing something right, and we are indebted to clients and customers who continue to place their faith the company to deliver their requirements.
We have built up an extensive portfolio of projects of all sizes, values and complexities. These are a few of my favourite, interesting and most structurally challenging, with thanks to those who’s photographs I have borrowed.
