Connecting Leicester Streets and Spaces Walkabout

11th November 2013: 3pm start. Finish approx 4.30pm

Do you want to find out more about the council’s programme of improvements to the city centre streets and the creation of new public squares?

The historic centre of Leicester contains a number of sites with stories to tell. Have you ever wondered who St Martin was, what was Greyfriars and what happened to it?

You can find out more about the Council’s Connecting Leicester programme and discover the secrets of Leicester’s history in a free city walk lead by a blue badge guide and a council officer responsible for Connecting Leicester.

The route starts at New Walk Centre and goes around the old town, taking in the most historical parts of the city centre. The guide will take you back to medieval times and through more recent history such as the 1905 unemployed march to London. Plans for Jubilee Square and the Market development will bring us right up to date.

The planned route is just under a mile long. With stops to talk about important sites and landmarks on the way, it will last between 45 minutes and an hour.

The Connecting Leicester walking tours are scheduled for Wednesday 23rd October at 4pm and Monday 11th November at 3pm.
