Taking place on Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th October 2013 these events offers the opportunity to visit the new Sainsbury’s store on Melton Road, Leicester.

Arrival is 2.45pm for a 3.00pm start. We anticipate that the tour will last for about 1.5 hours.

Longcross are currently building the new store on the former GE Lighting site, which once built will replace the existing Sainsbury’s store on Belgrave Road. The new 130,000 sq.ft flagship store – which will be one of the supermarket’s largest is due for completion mid-November and open to the public in late November.

The scheme also includes a major upgrade of the Melton Road / Troon Way junction.

The construction team have designed the scheme utilising BIM which has assisted to showcase visual walkthroughs and highlight clash detection. This project incorporates a number of specific design features. These include an innovative hybrid frame which combines structural steel with a glulam frame and SIPS panels which eliminate the large number of columns normally associated with this type of building.

Other eco initiatives being utilised include CCHP, rainwater harvesting and a ‘green’ petrol filling station that incorporates pv panels within the glazed canopy.
