Mitchian Group secures go-ahead for Leicester apartment building

An application proposing the construction of an apartment building next to a mixed-use development in Leicester looks has been green lit.

Mitchian Group brought forward plans for a scheme at 122a–182 Western Road, next to a seven-storey mixed-use development combining student accommodation and retail space.

Lined up is the creation of an apartment block rising to four and six storeys providing 46 one- and two-bed properties.

Also included is a roof terrace, communal garden and internal bike store.

A planning statement noted that the project will "see the redevelopment of an underutilised brownfield site close to the city centre".

Leicester City Council's Planning committee reviewed and voted to approve the application on 15 April.

A report for the committee said the scheme will "improve the character and appearance of the area by replacing underused buildings of little architectural merit with a block of residential flats that will make a positive contribution".
