Medium Residential Scheme of the Year Award 2026 Finalist

Located on a former agricultural site in the heart of the village, the six individually designed homes bridge the historic character of Congerstone with its expanding residential neighbourhood.

The design team created homes that reflect the traditional agricultural vernacular of Congerstone through carefully selected materials, traditional brick detailing, slate roofs and sensitive proportions.

Future homeowners were actively involved in shaping their homes, with bespoke internal layouts and finishes developed through extensive consultation. Four of the six homes were sold before completion.

Further Information

The scheme bridged a gap between the old village and a new, large development which continues to expand. The houses created an attractive flow between these two different parts of the village’s architectural narrative.

Existing trees and hedgerows were retained wherever possible, excavated materials were reused within the site, and a wildflower meadow was created above a new sustainable drainage system to enhance biodiversity.

The four detached and two semi-detached homes are the result of a genuinely collaborative design process.
