Regeneration Project of the Year Award 2025 Finalist

The Jewry Wall Museum regeneration restored and reimagined a Grade II listed 1962 museum as an inclusive, accessible and sustainable cultural destination that would be a vibrant hub for learning, tourism and community engagement.

The project created a dynamic new museum that blends cutting-edge technology with historic conservation, offering immersive audio visual storytelling, interactive displays and more than 100 Roman artefacts located in Leicestershire.

New features include a dramatic glazed extension that visually connects the museum to the Roman ruins outside, interactive displays and a fully accessible pedestrian bridge from St Nicholas Circle.

Further Information

Over time, the Jewry Wall Museum building had become increasingly underused and inaccessible, with increasingly outdated infrastructure, limited inclusivity and deteriorating building fabric.

The regeneration aimed not only to restore the museum’s architectural integrity but to redefine its purpose and accessibility for future generations.

The project revitalised a nationally important heritage asset, reconnected it with Leicester’s communities and laid the groundwork for a dynamic cultural future. The project created and retained local jobs across multiple phases and supports longer-term economic activity through increased visits, venue hire and local spend.
