Regeneration Project of the Year Award 2025 Finalist

A major project at Leicester Cathedral featuring subtle repairs and renovations plus the design of an extension has made a lasting impact.

The project plays a significant role in supporting the economic revitalisation of Leicester’s Cathedral Quarter and the wider city. By enhancing the Cathedral’s infrastructure and introducing the new Heritage Learning Centre (HLC), the development has unlocked new economic potential.

The HLC provides flexible, purpose-built spaces for learning, exhibitions and events – attracting increased footfall from schools, tourists and community groups that stimulates local businesses such as cafés, shops and hotels.

Further Information

The project created high-quality, skilled employment during construction, engaging local craftspeople and specialists.

Ongoing benefits include expanded opportunities for events and cultural programming, which provide consistent revenue streams for the Cathedral and the surrounding area.

As a destination for heritage tourism and education, the revitalised Cathedral site is now better positioned to draw diverse audiences and contribute meaningfully to Leicester’s economic regeneration through increased engagement, job creation and visitor spending.
