Leicester waterside is a hidden gem. The area is located to the north west of the city centre between the A6 and Rally Park and contains the River Soar and Grand Union Canal.
These waterways have been an underused and often under–appreciated asset, cut off from the rest of the city by historical industrial development, some of this area suffers from high levels of vacancy and dereliction. The poor appearance and lack of investment in sites in this area makes a poor ‘front door’ for visitors to our city. But not anymore!
At this event David Beale from Leicester City Council will talk about the regeneration of the Waterside and the opportunity to turn the area around, bring in new investment and create a vibrant and thriving neighbourhood with new homes and new workspaces.
In 2017 Leicester City Council received £25 million of funding over five years to help kick-start development and as is clearly visible work has not commenced on some of these developments.
Keepmoat Homes will give details of an 18-acre brownfield site in Leicester’s Waterside area that they are developing into a new neighbourhood of homes, shops and workplaces. Alongside 302 new city centre homes, Keepmoat will deliver 67,500 square feet of office space, a 5,000 square foot retail unit and a park area.
And Charles Street Buildings will talk about the first phase of their development to include two hotels and an office block on the former Stibbe site, renovation of the former Leicester Central station, the creation of a large open public area and a super crossing of Vaughan Way to reunite the site with the city centre.
