Berkeley Insurance are Ensuring Commercial Properties are Fit for the Future

The perfect storm of Brexit, Covid and the war in Ukraine has created significant challenges for the commercial property sector. Meeting the demands of changing legislation, awareness of environmental pressures, keeping abreast of occupiers needs, meeting their requirements and all whilst achieving satisfactory returns on the investment, will keep property professionals very busy indeed.

Hoping to provide solutions and encouraging discussion on these topics and more besides, Berkeley Insurance Group are hosting an event at the Belfry Hotel & Resort on the 19th May 2023. There will be presentations from expert speakers in the sector that will address some key areas facing property managers, surveyors, investors and owners. Topics will include legislation, protection, tax, sustainability, valuations and maintenance.

Speakers include:

• Trevor Palmer, Real Estate Account Director from Berkeley Insurance Group. Trevor will look at the risks associated with unoccupied commercial property and address how to minimise the risk of uninsured losses and the importance of communication between all stakeholders when it comes to adhering to insurance requirements.
• Martin Tilley, Chief Operating Officer from WBR SSAS will discuss the tax benefits of investing a commercial property within a Small Self-Administered Pension Scheme and how to ensure HMRC rules are correctly followed with guidance to trustees involved with property held within a SSAS.
• Mark Briggs, Managing Director of Barrett Corp and Harrington. Mark will be addressing the current issues and reasons behind the increase in reinstatement cost valuations to avoid underinsurance impacting on a claim’ settlement.
• Tom Kelly, Technical Services Manager of Giromax Technology will explore the environmental and sustainability challenges when it comes to the maintenance and protection of roofing for industrial property including how this impacts on dilapidations and the responsibility of tenants on lease renewals.

The organisers will be hoping for fine weather as the afternoon will offer the opportunity for golf enthusiasts to play 18 holes on the world renown Derby Golf Course at the fabulous venue of the Belfry Hotel & Resort. Along with lunch, coffee breaks and the opportunity for networking, the day will provide an ideal way for property people to receive updates on the important issues facing the sector as well as relaxing and enjoying an optional afternoon on the golf course.
