A time capsule has been buried during a ceremony at the new £14m state-of-the-art Catherine Infant School in Leicester.

Members from Galliford Try’s Building East Midlands team were joined by representatives from the Department for Education (DfE), Gleeds, and staff and pupils from Catherine Infant School, including Mitesh Madhaw, the Headteacher and Jill Harrold, former Headteacher.

Four young students from the primary school took part in burying a time capsule that is filled with artefacts to be recovered in the future. Their contributions to the time capsule included photographs of the school, an old mobile phone, staff lanyards, USB stick with the school song sung by the children, a school shirt, class timetables, school menus and a newspaper report to be opened in 30 years’ time.

Procured through the DfE Contractors' Framework, the new school has been designed to be Net Zero Carbon in Operation (NZCiO) and is set to be completed by the end of 2024. It will replace the existing building for the OFSTED-Outstanding school and will include a new car park, Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), and play space.

Jon Marston, Managing Director for Galliford Try Building East Midlands, commented: "We're delighted to share in this moment with the school children, creating a lasting tribute to their cherished memories. We look forward to completing this state-of-the-art school that will enrich the experiences of both the students and staff.
