Loughborough Based Scope Construction Start Work On Affordable Housing Developments for Derby City Council
Scope Construction marked the start of work on two affordable housing sites in Derby with a ground breaking at Crompton Street on Tuesday 17th March.
Derby City Council has appointed Scope Construction through the Westworks Development and Construction DPS Framework to design and build six one-bedroom flats at Crompton Street and six one-bedroom flats at Oaklands Avenue. Both sites are currently vacant and will be transformed into high-quality, energy-efficient homes for rent.
At Crompton Street where the ground breaking took place, former garages have been demolished, whilst at Oaklands Avenue, the site previously contained a disused stairwell which has now been removed, leaving both sites ready for development.
The new flats will be owned by Derby City Council and will be managed by Derby Homes, the Council’s Arm’s Length Management Organisation (ALMO). Once completed, they will be let through the Council’s letting system, Derby Homefinder.
Councillor Shiraz Khan, Cabinet Member for Housing, Strategic Planning and Regulatory Services said:
“The new affordable homes at Crompton Street and Oaklands Avenue are another important step in our commitment to deliver more affordable housing in Derby.
“Like all other local authorities, there is significant demand for social housing in our city with thousands of people currently registered and waiting for a home. By bringing these vacant sites back into use, we are making the best possible use of them by providing high-quality, affordable and energy efficient homes for residents.”
Maz Patel, Managing Director, Scope Construction, said:
"It was great to be on site on Tuesday 17 March to officially break ground on our first projects for Derby City Council.
“Scope is committed to helping local authorities to deliver affordable and sustainable housing across the East Midlands. Derby City Council has an ambitious housing strategy and we look forward to working with them and Arcus to deliver the two apartment schemes at Oaklands Avenue and Crompton Street. We hope it will be the first of many housing schemes we deliver together."
Working with Arcus Consulting, Scope Construction expect both social housing projects to be completed in Summer 2027.
