Northamptonshire Architects Celebrate AABC Accreditation for Associate Daniel Jones

Published 29th May 2025 by GSSArchitecture

Celebrations are in full swing at Northamptonshire based architectural practice, GSSArchitecture, where Associate Daniel Jones has earned the prestigious Architect Accredited in Building Conservation (AABC) accreditation — a significant milestone in his already impressive career.

The AABC is a nationally respected accreditation body that maintains a register of architects recognised for their proven expertise in the repair, maintenance, and sensitive adaptation of historic buildings. This recognition is only awarded after rigorous peer and client-led assessments, ensuring that only those with genuine conservation credentials are entrusted with the care of our historic built environment.

Daniel (Dan) joined GSSArchitecture in 2022 as a Senior Architect and was promoted to the role of Associate in 2024. Since his time at GSS, Dan has become a driving force behind some of the practice’s most complex heritage and refurbishment projects. Notably among these are the renovation and upgrade of Kirklevington Hall Hotel for Kymel as well as the retrofit and upgrade of Newcastle University’s Grade II listed King George VI Building. Dan has also contributed to a series of refurbishment schemes for the Inn Collection Group across the UK supporting contractors and clients alike. Over the past three years, his work has significantly enriched historic sites both regionally and nationally.

With over 14 years of industry experience, Dan now steps into the role of national Conservation and Heritage Lead at GSSArchitecture. This new position will see him champion conservation best practices across the business, mentor colleagues, and continue to deliver exceptional value to clients with heritage assets on a national level.

Dan comments, “I'm absolutely thrilled to have achieved AABC accreditation, which represents the culmination of years dedicated to conservation architecture and reflects my unwavering commitment to safeguarding our built heritage. This recognition, alongside my appointment as national Conservation and Heritage Lead at GSSArchitecture, presents a tremendous opportunity to shape our approach to historic buildings across the country, balancing sensitive preservation with sustainable adaptation for contemporary needs. I'm particularly keen to build upon our conservation-led methodology, ensuring that each heritage asset we work with maintains its unique character whilst meeting modern environmental standards. None of this would have been possible without the exceptional support of my colleagues at GSS, whose collaborative spirit and shared passion for conservation have been instrumental throughout my professional journey. Taking on the role of Conservation and Heritage Lead is a challenge I relish, and I'm looking forward to sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm with the team, and helping our clients navigate the complexities of heritage projects with confidence."

Simon Rennison-Rae, Partner at GSSArchitecture, said, “I’m really pleased to see Dan’s well-deserved recognition of achieving his AABC accreditation – a massive well done! With an ever-increasing drive on retrofit and refurbishment projects, his AABC accreditation provides greater assurance to our clients and allows Dan to build on the practice’s offering. Having also secured a place on the NEUPC Conservation Framework, it means that GSS can continue to offer Accredited Conservation Architecture and Heritage Advice to our clients on a national level, expanding our portfolio and reaching new clients across a number of sectors.”

Dan’s AABC accreditation is the latest in a series of recent successes for GSSArchitecture. Earlier this year, the practice was awarded a place on Lot 4 of the newly established North East Universities Procurement Consortium (NEUPC) Construction Project Management and Conservation Professional Services Framework — a testament to their growing influence in the conservation sector.

NEUPC is a leading professional buying organisation representing key higher education institutions across the North East region and is also accessible to Universities across the Country for Conservation services. GSSArchitecture has held a place on the NEUPC Construction Professional Services Framework since 2018, and this latest appointment further solidifies their reputation as a trusted partner in delivering complex and sensitive construction projects within the academic and heritage sectors.
