As part of its ambitious growth strategy, law firm Shakespeare Martineau has appointed leading corporate partner Daniel Banton.

With more than 15 years’ post-qualified experience, Daniel has returned to private practice almost three years after co-founding and developing a European litigation business.

Prior to this, he spent over 10 years in Howes Percival’s corporate team, working his way up from solicitor to partner and, eventually, leading the corporate, commercial and banking department – more than doubling its headcount.

Specialising in corporate law, Daniel advises public and private companies, family businesses, individuals, and institutions on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, reorganisations, and corporate finance. He has particular expertise working with mid-market corporates, PLCs, litigation financing companies, OMBs and education institutions.

Daniel, who will be based at Shakespeare Martineau’s Nottingham and Leicester hubs but working with clients nationally, said: “I am thrilled to have joined such a forward-thinking and ambitious firm at such an exciting time. Shakespeare Martineau has a solid brand and is in a great position in the local markets, with a clear growth strategy in the Midlands.

“I enjoy working with my clients to step through the various challenges of a corporate transaction and, ultimately, achieving a positive outcome that supports their ambitions. I am looking forward to helping the Midlands corporate team build upon and cement its presence and reputation as a market leader delivering excellent client service.”

Daniel’s appointment is the latest in a string of new partner hires as part of Shakespeare Martineau’s growth strategy, broadening its footprint both north and south. In the past six months, the firm has hired four new corporate partners, taking its total team headcount to more than 30.

Duncan James, Nottingham corporate partner at Shakespeare Martineau, said: “There is a lot of opportunity in the corporate market across the whole of the Midlands and beyond. We are delighted to welcome Daniel to the team, which is part of our continuing commitment to having a strong corporate presence in the Midlands and strengthens our offering in the region.

“With a wealth of experience, a strong local reputation and being an active member of the Midlands business community, Daniel’s appointment consolidates our commitment to providing clients with top quality consultancy from the very best legal minds the region has to offer.”
