The infrastructure and landscaping enabling the creation of Leicestershire’s first garden village has created a Charnwood Forest inspired sense of arrival and a sense of place for Broadnook, just south of Rothley.
The first residents have moved in to what will total 1,950 homes, with Broadnook also set to include employment and commercial development and a new village centre with a shop, care home and sports facilities.
The infrastructure works included the construction of two new roundabouts and junctions on and adjacent to the A6. The developer also delivered extensive landscaping features and landscaped grounds ahead of the timescales required by the planning permission.
Broadnook is a major residential led development that includes a convenience food store, primary school, assisted living retirement homes, a care home, sports facilities, a cricket pavilion and new parkland and recreational spaces.
Off-site junction improvements were required for the A46 and A6 and these works were combined with the early delivery of the landscaping scheme. The project also included cycling and walking infrastructure and extensive areas for the capture and management of surface water.
The developer invested heavily in mature tree planting and worked closely with the adopting authorities to significantly landscape the centres of the roundabouts.

Two new bridges were constructed across the old River Soar to replace an old bridge to the Freemens Meadow housing in Leicester.
The £8.5m A50 corridor project included substantial remodelling of the Fiveways junction – a long term source of driver confusion, congestion and disruption along one of the busiest strategic routes in Leicester.
