Specialist technical consultancy MEC Consulting Group has reported a record year of trading, achieving its highest ever turnover.

The company, which has offices in Leicester, Nottingham, Brighton, Birmingham, recorded a turnover of £5.4m, the highest in its 16 years of trading.

The business added that it exceeded its pre-tax profit and new work targets.

Managing director Alex Bennett said: "2025 was a fantastic year with these record-breaking results marking our strongest financial performance to date, easily surpassing our previous best year of 2018 when we had more than 30 additional staff.

"This success is a huge credit to the focus and talent of our team, as well as the continued trust our clients place in us. 2025's growth was entirely organic and included the launch of our fourth office in Nottingham.

"In just six months, we've already doubled our desk space in the city, along with adding a further desk in our Birmingham office, which is a powerful indicator of the momentum within the business and our ambition for the future."

To sustain this growth, MEC has made a series of new senior hires including:

  • David Johnson as associate director – Geoenvironmental. Johnson joins MEC's Leicester team, bringing more than 35 years' experience in the discipline, including roles on the Toyota factory in Derby and Stanton Steel and Gasworks, as well as six years working overseas in New Zealand and Australia.
  • Milan Vadher as principal transport planner. Vadher has provided transport, planning and infrastructure services across residential, commercial, education, and public realm developments, and joins MEC's Leicester team.
  • Humza Ahmed as a daylight and lighting impact specialist. A graduate of UCL, Ahmed has worked on schemes across the capital and Home Counties, including residential developments in Canada Water and the London Golf Club redevelopment.
  • Barry Crook as a senior lighting consultant. Based in MEC's Leicester office, Crook specialises in exterior lighting designs and services, having ran his own consultancy for six years.
  • Kirandip Kaur as a senior transport planner. Kaur returns to MEC's Leicester team, having previously worked for the firm as a graduate transport planner.
  • Richard Abbott as a civil engineer. Abbott joins MEC's Birmingham team with four years' experience gained at various civil engineering practices.

The firm also confirmed the appointment of three graduates and apprentices. Mahdi Islam joins the Transport team in Leicester as a graduate transport planner; Orla Garvey joins as a graduate civil engineer in Birmingham; while Zayd Ul-Hassan starts as apprentice civil engineer.

Bennett said: "We're excited to welcome these new and returning faces to the team, who will strengthen and grow four very busy disciplines. Each brings a wealth of experience and will allow us to expand our service offering as we continue to build on our momentum.

"Communication and client care is paramount to any ongoing success, which is why we're also going to be introducing a dedicated project management team to act as the central link between clients and internal technical teams. We're recruiting for these roles right now and are seeking professionals who can ensure projects are coordinated, managed and delivered effectively.

"All in all, we are confident we are in a strong position to achieve similar growth for 2026 while maintaining the robust service and technical excellence that we are known for."
